The rufous hummingbird is a small hummingbird, about 8 cm long with a long, straight and slender bill. These birds are known for their extraordinary flight skills, flying 2,000 mi during their migratory transits. It is one of seven species in the genus Selasphorus.

This is so adorable! I've never seen a hummingbird clinging to a stem like that to feed. Also the colors are beautiful. Great work Saija.

Thank you so much Doris! They do occasionally sit still to feed, I have a couple in my yard that will actually sit still for about 5 minutes to feed. 😊
